Those times where your not sure if your friend’s comments on your car buying ideas are trying to be funny or if they are genuinely concerned for your mental well-being....

My friend bought an RX8 even though many of us told him not to. He didn’t have his car for more than a week before it started giving him issues.
Luckily, he bought it from CarMax. They pretty much bought it back from him. They stopped selling RX8’s like a month after his incident too.

There was a facelifted RX-8 for sale just before I started seriously shopping. It was an nice grey, fully loaded, so Grand Touring I guess, Manual, 2011. In fact it was one of the cars that made me think I should just buying something newer. Sadly by the time I got my wife on boarded it was gone.

People who don’t know you and say that are just repeating a meme to be funny. People who do know you and say that are genuinely concerned.
I keep seeing a black RX-8 on my way to work every morning. It’s making me miss mine.

Aren’t engines pretty cheap to buy refurbished, pretty easy to rebuild, and easy to swap? Seriously asking because I’ve always wanted to buy a nice body with a dead engine on the cheap haha

Jon (who made the comment) knows me pretty well. We go back to the late 90's/early 2000's when we were both big into Fieros, another wonderful disaster of a car (See a trend here? haha)

Yes. Yes they are.

RX8's are not for everyone. In fact I wrote THIS on buying an RX8. If you are really into it, know a lot about cars in general, and keep up on maintenance, an RX8 can treat you well. I’ve had mine for 35k miles and just had a compression test done that came back pretty much with prefect compression numbers. It’s not easy to keep it that way though.

I’d suggest you get one to drive too, but there can be only one...

Fiero a disaster? I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Even in the 80s when they first came out and we thought they were cool, we still knew they were a questionable idea.

Yup, I remember your article. I linked it to another friend who was looking at an Rx8 as well.
Like you said, it takes a certain person to take care of any rotary. I’ve driven maybe 3 Rx8 and 1 Rx7 and when running right they’re a blast.
My friend who did buy the Rx8 took it as a good learning experience and actually bought one to tinker with. He went from knowing 0 about cars to repairing an Rx8 and other cars in his spare time.

Very cool to hear! I think an RX-8 is a great ‘tinkering’ car to have. All in all, they are relatively easy to work on. The biggest trouble I’ve ever had working on mine was freeing up the suspension bolts, which took an air-hammer at 125psi to pound out. But if you are willing to work, RX8's can provide you with lots of enjoyment.

Yeah, and I owned 3 of them. It’s almost like I want to own all the worst, questionable cars in the world. Or at the very least, I’m a glutton for automotive punishment

Yeah, but the RX-8 is a really good car...except for a couple of minor things that could be improved.
